Magic Carpets Platform 2017, Europe
Latitudo is one of the partners of Magic Carpets Platform, co-financed by the Creative Europe Programme, led by the Kaunas Biennial. The projects' concept was created by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini and its title, also conceived by the curator, refers to the famous tales in One Thousand and One Night and to the idea of the Magic flying carpet, a "fantastical device" used to travel around the world in the blink of an eye.Scherazade's creativity and imagination, used to tell stories to intrigue and captivate her husband, here become a convincing metaphor for the power of culture to transform distrust and confrontation into intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, respect and even love.
Magic Carpets is a platform that brings together 13 European partners in a large project lasting 4 years. The project aims to bring various nations into dialogue through the archetypical image of the carpet in order to reach a new a approach to community partecipation that is rhizomatic, horizontal and reticulated. It is a project of raising awareness that aims to cultivate a sense of belonging, where people, outside their countries of origin, can create a network starting from the classification processes from the logic of the great classics of our childhood. One of the goals is to have emerging artist travel throughtout Europe, inviting them to relate with different realities and societies.
